Event Summary
Tropical Storm Harold made landfall on Padre Island on the morning of August 22, 2023. Matagorda
Bay, Coastal Jackson and Matagorda Counties experienced some wind gusts above tropical storm
force in part due to the landfalling tropical cyclone but also due to high pressure positioned to the
north. Rainfall amounts were mainly less than an inch and storm surge was modest. The storm had
no significant impact to those counties according to emergency managers.
NOTE: It is unlikely that the point-based observations provided in this report sampled the peak values for the event.
