This job aid is designed to provide instruction in the process to generate and print a Counseling
List report. Although it can be used as a tool for data analysis, its primary use is to identify a list of
students with marks of D or F in one or more district courses, during a specific time frame.
Users with the Principal, Scheduling Administrator, Counselor, Counselor Plus, and/or Office
Manager roles have the ability to perform the tasks in this document. This job aid was created using
the Counselor role at a senior high school.
Step 1 Log into MiSiS with the following URL:
http://misis.lausd.net/start, from your internet browser,
using your single sign-on (SSO) user ID and password.
Step 2 Select the correct user role from the landing page, as required (Example: Counselor).
Step 3 Click the Reports menu button.
NOTE: It is suggested that you open the Reports menu in a new tab (Right-click on Reports
button, select Open Link In New Tab), so that you can toggle between multiple pages.

Step 4 Reports are listed in alphabetical order by module. Locate the Grades module and select the
Counseling List Report link.
The report parameter screen and any prepopulated default values are displayed below.
Additional values become available as parameter selections are made.
A brief description of each field follows, in the order of selection:
Educational Service Center (ESC)Select the ESC that the school is located in.
School YearSelect based on the enrollment year. The default value is 2014-2015;
update as needed.
CampusSelect the home campus.
School Select the appropriate school or magnet.
Small Learning Community (SLC)Select the SLC (will populate based on School
parameter valueselect specific name, No SLC Assigned, or ALL).
Group Category Select a value from the drop down list (populated based on active
groups that were previously created).
Group Sub-CategorySelect the group type from the drop-down list (populated based
on the selection made in the previous parameter).
NOTE: Selecting Scheduling as the Category and Scheduler as the Sub-Category will
include ALL students.

Group (s)/CounselorSelect a checkbox for each group name and/or counselor (or
select ALL for everyone) to determine the students the data will be generated for.
Term Code Select one or more terms (Example: A-Track Fall)
Grading Period Select a checkbox for one or more grading periods within the
selected term.
District Course Nbr A list of district courses from the school’s active catalog will
display based on prior parameters entered; select a checkbox for one or more courses
to display on the report. The default is set to select ALL courses.
Sort By Select either by Student/Class Period or Teacher/Class Period.
Schedule Select either Full or Minimum schedule
o Minimum Schedule Returns only classes that meet the selected criteria.
o Full Schedule Returns entire schedule of students who meet the selected criteria.
NOTE: Search results will ONLY display class sections for which grades/marks were
entered, regardless of the schedule option selected.
o If the Sort By value selected for the previous parameter was Teacher/Class Period,
Minimum Schedule is the only option available for this parameter.
o If the Sort By value selected for the previous parameter was Student/Class Period,
both choices are available.
Report Title Type a name for the report (Counseling List is the system default value).
The next few parameters allow users to select specific values for the marks to be displayed on the
report. A maximum of two academic grades can be selected. In the example illustrated in this job
aid, a user would like to view all students with a D or F in the selected course subjects.
ACAD Grade Value 1 Select the first academic grade value from the drop down list.
In this example, D was selected.
ACAD Grade Nbr 1 Select to determine the minimum number of the selected
academic grade a student should have. In this example, 1 was selected. The report
will include all identified students with at least one D.
ACAD Grade Value 2 Either select the second academic grade value from the drop
down list, or leave minimum number at Null to generate the report for only one grade.
In this example, F was selected.
ACAD Grade Nbr 2 Select to determine the minimum number of the selected
academic grade a student should have. In this example, 1 was selected. The report
will include all identified students with at least one F.
W.H. Grade Value 1Select to identify a specific mark value for work habits. In this
example, the value was left at Null, which will include all students that have a D or F,
regardless of their work habits mark.
Minimum W.H. Grade Nbr 1 Select to determine the minimum number of the
selected work habits mark a student should have. Based on the prior parameter
selection, this value defaults to Null.
COOP Grade Value 1 - Select to identify a specific mark value for cooperation. In
this example, the value was left at Null, which will include all students that have a D or
F, regardless of the cooperation mark.
Minimum COOP Grade Nbr 1 - Select to determine the minimum number of the
selected cooperation mark a student should have. Based on the prior parameter
selection, this value defaults to Null.

Make sure to enter the parameters from left to right, and top to bottomthis allows the values in
the drop-down menus to populate accurately.
Please note that as selections are made from a parameter drop-down list, users may need to either
click on the corresponding drop down arrow or click anywhere within the gray parameter
window to collapse a list.
Step 5a Complete the parameters as required. A completed sample is shown below.
Step 5b Click the View Report button.
NOTE: It can take up to 30 minutes to generate a report, based on the parameters selected.
Please DO NOT log out of MiSiS or close the browser during this process.
Step 6a Click on the Export icon to export data.
Step 6b Select a file type. In this example, PDF was selected.

Step 7a Select the radio button option to open the file. Please note that the pop-up window display
may vary, depending on the internet browser used.
Step 7b Click the OK button.
Step 8 Click on File from the Menu toolbar or select the Print icon from within the application to print
the report. In this example, the Print icon was selected.
