ATTENTION PARENTS: We are in need of more parents to serve on the Granite Oaks Site Council,
please APPLY HERE FOR SITE COUNCIL through November 3, 2020
The Site Council objective is to assist Granite Oaks Middle School in matters pertaining to the school and its
educational program. Specific objectives include:
A. Advising, recommending, and reviewing with the principal, teachers, other school personnel, parents,
and pupils the implementation of the school improvement program and assess periodically the
effectiveness of the program.
B. Facilitating school and district communication with parents and community.
C. Informing and advising school and district staff regarding community conditions, aspirations, and goals.
D. Assisting in providing support to parents, teachers, students, and community for school programs.
E. Involving citizens in a meaningful way in problems and important decisions confronting Granite Oaks
Middle School.
F. Foster relationships between homes, school, and staff.
Traffic/Student Safety
All students must cross the streets of Wyckford and Park at designated crosswalk areas. Recently, we have had
students who have been running across both streets after school. This has led to near accidents and students
who have nearly been hit by cars. We have notified RPD and have asked them to increase patrols in the area to
ensure the safety of our students. For your child's safety it is imperative that you speak with your child and
make sure that they cross any street around GOMS at a designated crosswalk.
Teacher Office Hours
Students are being encouraged to ask for help from their teachers during teacher office hours. Students can
make an appointment to Zoom in and receive help from their teachers from 3:10pm to 3:40pm Tuesday through
Friday. Our GOMS teachers are ready and available during this time to help all students with any questions or
concerns they may have regarding our curriculum.
Physical Education Classes
The Physical Education department would like to remind parents that students have at-home workouts on their
“asynchronous “ days. Please monitor your student to make sure they are completing these important
workouts!
GOMS Library
The GOMS library is open for all students to check out books, chromebooks, and have a place to work on
homework. The library hours will go from 8:15am to 2:50pm. Student numbers will be limited within the
library to follow our RUSD COVID-19 protocols. Students will be free to use the library during the morning, at
lunch, and after school to complete homework, check out books and chromebooks. Please be sure to follow all
social distancing protocols while using the library.
