BELLINGEN SHOW ADMISSION
Admission Tickets for the Bellingen Show will be available for purchase online through the Show
website from 16 March. This is the preferred method for gate ticket sales and tickets purchased
online will be discounted to encourage use of this facility.
Ticket sales will be available at the gate for those patrons who have not purchased a ticket online.
Tickets can also be purchased from the Secretary’s Office at the Showground on Wednesdays from
1pm to 4pm commencing 20 March, and between 9am & 4pm, Monday - Friday Show week - 29 April
to 03 May. Refer following page for Admission Ticket prices.

ALL ENTRIES & MATTERS CONNECTED WITH THE SHOW ARE SUBJECT TO THE RULES &
CONDITIONS OF THE BELLINGER RIVER AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY Inc.
Competitors, by entering, agree to abide by any decision of the Committee in regard to
entries and agree to compete/exhibit at their own risk and to indemnify and keep
indemnified the Society, its Trustees, Committee & Members against all claims, suits, actions,
or demands which may be brought against it in respect of any injuries or other loss sustained
by such competitor or otherwise in the course of competing/exhibiting in any event/s and/or
class/es and agree to exonerate the Bellinger River Agricultural Society Inc., its Trustees,
Committee & Members from all responsibility and from all loss or injury whatsoever whether
from alleged negligence or otherwise. Parents/Guardians are required to sign on behalf of
competitors under 18 years of age.
APPEALS COMMITTEE
The Appeals Committee will consist of the President and the Chief Steward of whichever
Section the appeal originates. The plaintiff must lodge an appeal with the Chief Steward of
the Section concerned within 30 minutes of the completion of the class judging being
notified. The appeal must be in writing and accompanied by $50, which will be refunded by
the Secretary if the appeal is upheld.

There are two ways to enter your Exhibits in the Pavilion - either online via our entry portal, or in
person by attending the Bellingen Show Office during show week.
Please refer below for instructions.

1. We suggest that you download a copy of the 2024 Pavilion Entry Form from the
Bellingen Show website (www.bellingenshow.com.au) and note down your relevant
Class Numbers before proceeding. You should also take note of any special conditions
relating to each Class for example size, number of items, etc. You might also like to
print a copy of these instructions for future reference.
2. Then proceed to : https://showday.online/show/bellingen
3. You will be required to create an account if you do not already have one.
4. Follow the prompts to place your entries and proceed to the payment screen.
5. Your Entries will not be accepted until you have completed the payment process.
6. Once your Entries have been accepted, you will receive an automatically generated
confirmation email within 24 hours. Please read the email carefully.
7. You will need to collect your Exhibit Cards from the Bellingen Show Office either in
advance, or at the time you deliver your entry.

PAVILION EXHIBITS
1. Non-Perishable Pavilion Exhibits will be accepted with your Entry Form from 9:00am Monday
29 April until 6:00pm Thursday 02 May 2024.
2. PERISHABLE EXHIBITS ONLY will be accepted up to 9:30am on Friday 03 May. However,
your Entry Form must be lodged by 6:00pm Thursday 02 May.
3. PLEASE NOTE: The Pavilion doors will be closed at 9:45am on Friday 03 May when judging
will commence. LATE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
PRIZES & PRIZE COLLECTION
1. Prize money is shown at the beginning of each section in this schedule and, where
appropriate, against specific classes. Note if there is only one entrant/exhibit in a
class it does not automatically mean a 1

2. Individual prizes over $20 will be paid into the winner's bank account.
3. Prize money collection (with exhibit card or ID) is from the Secretary’s Office from
11am Saturday 04 May to 5pm on Sunday 05 May.
4. EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE: Prize money not collected by 4pm on Monday 06 May
2024 will be deemed as forfeited and revert to Society funds.
COLLECTION OF EXHIBITS
1. Collection of exhibits from the Pavilion is from 3:30pm to 5pm on Sunday 05 May.
2. The Pavilion will close at 2.45pm on Sunday 05 May to allow Stewards to prepare
exhibits for collection after 3.30pm.
3. If exhibitors are unable to pick up exhibits by 5.00pm on Sunday 05 May, prior
arrangements must be made with the Chief Pavilion Steward or the Show Secretary.
MOST SUCCESSFUL COMPETITOR IN THE PAVILION
The Pavilion is the heart and soul of the Bellingen Show. The Pavilion displays are the
essence of a traditional agricultural show and provide entrants of all ages from across
the community with the opportunity to showcase their skills in a wide range of
traditional activities. The Bellingen Show Schedule lists over 350 Pavilion classes you can
enter covering areas as diverse as fruit and vegetable growing, cookery, needlework,
sewing, beading, photography, and many more.
The winner of this award will be the person who accumulates the most points for prizes won
across all the pavilion classes. Points will be awarded as follows:
First Prize 3 points; Second Prize 2 points; Special Prizes (e.g.: Champion Fruit) 1 point

HINTS & TIPS FOR CAKE MAKING
Please read your schedule very carefully. Some classes may have particular entry requirements.
Judges look for many things when they are judging such as well-cooked entries, shape,
presentation, preparation of fruits, baking (golden in colour outside, top and bottom), general
appearance and presentation and most importantly, flavour.
Use plain icing not frosting
Judges really enjoy an entry when it looks good, smells good, cuts well and tastes marvellous.
Points will be lost for burnt cakes, cakes with rack marks, under-cooked and soggy cakes, badly
prepared and irregular distribution of fruits, and tunnels or bubbles in the cake.

AgShows NSW Competition
RICH FRUIT COMPETITION
The following recipe is COMPULSORY for all entrants Section 4 Class 416
INGREDIENTS:
250g sultanas
250 g chopped raisins
250 g currants
125 g chopped mixed peel
90 g chopped red glace cherries
90 g chopped blanched almonds
1/3 cup sherry or brandy
250 g plain flour
60 g self-raising flour
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
250g butter
250g soft brown sugar
½ teaspoon lemon essence OR finely grated lemon rind
½ teaspoon almond essence
½ teaspoon vanilla essence
4 large eggs.
RECOMMENDED METHOD:
Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy.
Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight.
Sift together the flours and spices
Cream together the butter and sugar with the essences.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour
mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon.
Place the mixture into a prepared square 20cm x 20cm (8” x 8”) tin and bake in a slow oven
for approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.
Note 1: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3
pieces, cherries into 4-6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3-4 pieces.
Note 2: The height of the cake should not exceed 5.7cm (57mm)
AgShows NSW - Competition Information
OPTIONAL: In order to compete in the Group Final of the Agricultural Society of NSW competition, the
winner will be required to bake a second “Rich Fruit Cake”. The fourteen winners at Group level will
each receive a cash prize of $50, and are required to bake a third “Rich Fruit Cake” for the Final judging
at the Royal Easter Show where the winner will receive a cash prize of $100.00.

GLUTEN FREE BANANA LOAF
The following recipe is COMPULSORY for all entrants in Section 4 Class 420
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups gluten free self-raising flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 ripe well mashed bananas
125g butter, melted and cooled
2 lightly beaten eggs
1/4 cup of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

METHOD:
• Preheat oven to moderate, 180C
• Grease and line a 10cm x 20 cm loaf pan
• Sift flour and cinnamon together into a mixing bowl
• Stir in sugar
• In a large jug, combine banana, butter, eggs, milk and vanilla
• Using a wooden spoon, lightly mix banana mixture into flour mixture until just combined.
• Pour into pan, smoothing top
• Bake 40-45 minutes until cooked
• Cool in pan for five minutes before turning onto a wire rack to cool completely

POINTS FOR JAM MAKING
Appearance of the Jam: the colour of the jam, jelly or conserve should be bright. Jellies are to be
clear without any trace of cloudiness, jams and jellies must be fresh.
Condition of Jam: Jelly or Conserve: Consistency should be firm but not over stiff.
Flavour: This is the most important thing. If tough skins are used this may cost you points.
PRESENTATION
All exhibits other than preserves must be in screw top jars. Where the exhibitor has entered an
exhibit in the wrong class, the Chief Steward shall have the power to rectify the error.
Check jams BEFORE entering to make sure there is no mould present. Insufficiently boiled jam will
be watery and mould will form no matter how well a jar is sealed.
Fill jars almost to the top. Leave very little space between lid and jam. Seal tightly to exclude air.
Jars in each class are to contain not less than 250 gms of jam.
Jars to be clean and without stickers or commercial lids.
Label all exhibits correctly DO NOT include your name.

POINTS FOR JAM MAKING
Appearance of the Jam: the colour of the jam, jelly or conserve should be bright. Jellies are to be
clear without any trace of cloudiness, jams and jellies must be fresh.
Condition of Jam: Jelly or Conserve: Consistency should be firm but not over stiff.
Flavour: This is the most important thing. If tough skins are used this may cost you points.
PRESENTATION
All exhibits other than preserves must be in screw top jars. Where the exhibitor has entered an
exhibit in the wrong class, the Chief Steward shall have the power to rectify the error.
Check jams BEFORE entering to make sure there is no mould present. Insufficiently boiled jam will
be watery and mould will form no matter how well a jar is sealed.
Fill jars almost to the top. Leave very little space between lid and jam. Seal tightly to exclude air.
Jars in each class are to contain not less than 250 gms of jam.
Jars to be clean and without stickers or commercial lids.
Label all exhibits correctly DO NOT include your name.

GENERAL INFORMATION
IMPORTANT: Exhibits must be entered and received at the Show Office by 4pm Wednesday 01 May
The Show Office is open between 9am and 4pm from 29 April to 01 May for Entries & deliveries
Mail Entries should be sent to PO Box 149, Bellingen 2454 please include return postage stamps

EXHIBIT INFORMATION
IMPORTANT must not exceed - Print size A4 30 x 20 cm (12" x 8"); Mount size 35 x 25 cm (14" x 10")
Photographs must NOT have been entered in a previous Bellingen Show.
Each entry may compete in only one class.
No more than two entries in each class.
Entries MUST be mounted ON MATTE BOARD OR ON HARD CARD and have owners name, address,
class number and image title on the back of the image.
All photographs must be the work of the exhibitor.
Oversize prints or mounts will NOT be accepted.
Return postage must accompany postal entries.
All reasonable care is taken with exhibits but no responsibility will be taken for any loss or damage.
